Julie Holzman

While going to Design School, I (Julie Holzman) apprenticed for a Professional ASID member and learned all aspects of the business. I met many of her contacts/subcontractors and took them with me.

Holzman Interiors opened its doors in January of 1991 and incorporated in 1993. I started with one client in Westport, Ct. and a friend gave me the opportunity to do her kitchen in Darien. Within no time, I was working on 7 homes on her street alone. I shortly added a college graduate in design and a bookkeeper. Holzman Interiors was on a roll.

Julie started her career in Fashion and Fashion Design but started a new chapter after her third child was born. Julie went back to college for Interior Design simultaneously raising a family and apprenticing for an ASID professional. Her taste has evolved from the traditional environment where she lived and worked in Westport, Ct. to a more transitional/contemporary taste level after moving to New York City. Cleaner lines began emerging in the design world several years ago and now all my clients seem to want some/all incorporated into their spaces. My trip to Vietnam opened a color palette used in many of the Temples and famous doors within the country. Hanoi is a center for contemporary act and their absence of color or heavy use of color has helped me create a more minimalist approach to design.

“Julie Holzman is simply terrific. She has great taste and is the consummate professional. She really listens. She has terrific contacts, having been in the business for many years, great sources and gives you plenty of attention even if you have a small project. I went to her for help after the designers I hired skipped town halfway through decorating an entire house. She was the only decorator I interviewed (and I spoke with many) who understood I had no desire to start over from scratch. She looked at what had been started, remained true to the original vision, made an exact assessment of what was needed to finish the job. She didn’t waste time trying to convince me to get rid of things just because I had purchased them from other decorators. In fact, she made the entire experience a pleasure and now the house looks sensational. I wish I could have hired her from the beginning. A year later, I relied on her expertise to do another project that included painting and drapery installation and ordering a few items to spruce up another residence including custom rugs. Again, fabulous results, right down to the perfect match of colors in the yarn of the rugs to match a sofa that I didn’t wish to replace. If you want a beautiful home, and you want it done right the first time, I would hire Holzman Interiors without hesitation, and would recommend her with the utmost enthusiasm. ”

“Julie has helped me with a variety of projects in my apartment (lighting, shelving) and is now helping me renovate my kitchen. She has excellent taste, a great attitude and a no-nonsense approach. The people she works with (contractors, etc.) are all top-notch. Not a lot of drama here–Julie just takes care of business quickly and efficiently.”

“I purchased an apartment in Manhattan and hired Julie to design it floor to ceiling. The job involved moving walls, adding custom built-ins and closets, redoing all the lighting, upgrading the kitchen, adding a wet bar in addition to selecting all the furniture, rugs window treatments and bedding. The apartment was transformed from a stark white box to a beautiful, warm, comfortable and very stylish home. Julie has an exceptional talent and was a pleasure to work with…I highly recommend Holzman Interiors.”
